MPE

A MIDI-standard within the MIDI 1.0 language that makes polyphonic expression through digital instruments possible. Each note on a MIDI-keyboard that uses MPE can have their own independent modulation controls.

MIDI

Digital language made to make it possible for digital instruments, hardware and software, to communicate.

MPE+

A type of MPE developed by Haken Audio, the makers of the Continuum. Compared to the standardised MPE, MPE+ provides for a faster and more accurate sensing system.

MIDI 2.0

The long-awaited upgrade from the MIDI 1.0 standard. Among other things, it expands on the number of MIDI channels and bit rate that was possible previously.

Control surface

Continuous tracking of how hard the a touch sensor is pressed.

A continuation of polyphonic aftertouch.

Touch sensor

Detecting placement of finger on controller

Attack

The players first impact on a touch sensor. Registers the velocity.

(also called Strike)

Press

Continuous tracking of how hard a touch sensor is pressed.

A continuation of polyphonic aftertouch.

Slide

Fingers placement on the X-axis of a touch sensor.

(usually connected to parameters that modulate the generated sound)

Glide

Fingers placement on the Y-axis of a touch sensor.

(usually connected to pitch)

Release

Registers when you let go of a touch sensor, and measures the speed of which it is let go of.

(also called Lift)
